How to Lose Weight Quickly With Fruit

Going on a fruit fast can be a great way to quickly lose weight, detox your body and start following a healthy diet. This type of diet involves eating nothing but fruit and fruit juice over a certain period of time. While you are allowed to drink juices, you should focus the diet on whole fruits, which also have fiber to keep you full. You may not want to follow the plan long term, but it can get you off to a healthy start when you want to change your lifestyle.

    Decide how long you want to do a fruit fast. A traditional fruit fast lasts three days, but eating only fruit can be quite difficult for someone that is used to eating a lot of other foods. You may experience withdrawal symptoms, such as headaches and dizziness, especially if you are giving up caffeine to do the diet. You may want to start with just a one day fruit fast and increase the length the next time. You'll notice the biggest weight loss in the first few days because you will lose water weight.

    Purchase enough fruit to last several days. Considering the length of time that you will do the fast, buy several different types of fruit. Apples, pears and bananas are often inexpensive and they are easy to take with you. A wider variety of fruits, including melons and berries, can help you to sustain the diet longer. Be aware though, that while you are losing weight with a fruit diet, your calorie intake may be quite low. To avoid permanent damage to your metabolism, be sure that you are eating at least 1,200 calories per day.

    Throw away all the temptations in your refrigerator and cupboards. Go through your pantry and look for foods that may tempt you. In particular, throw away all junk foods. Caving in and eating junk foods during your fruit fast can cause you to regain the weight that you lose.

    Eat only fruit for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

    Carry fruit with you wherever you go. Be sure that you have extra fruit wherever you go. If you get hungry, you will need this so that you don't cave and purchase something unhealthy from a convenience store.

    Return to or start healthy eating habits once you've finished the fast. After the fruit fast, gradually begin to reintroduce foods into your diet. Start by eating raw or cooked vegetables, then add whole grains. Avoid eating refined products or other junk foods to continue your weight loss after the fast.
