Diet for Belly Fat

Excessive weight that is gained in the belly area can be a source of extreme discomfort and embarrassment. The fat that accumulates around your abdomen can also be a cause of concern for more serious conditions such as cardiovascular disease. Making changes in your diet and lifestyle can help to lose the fat that collects around your belly as you age.

Fats

Paying closer attention to food labels and the types of fat that you are eating will go a long way toward reducing belly fat. Saturated fats should be avoided and replaced with polyunsaturated fats. Ingredient labels that have hydrogenated oils or partially hydrogenated oils in the list are the types of foods that should be replaced with a healthier choice.

Some fats are healthy and must be included in a healthy diet. Omega 3 essential fatty acids are examples of good fats that will improve health. Cook with olive oil instead of corn oil for a simple adjustment to your diet that can reduce the amount of fat around your belly.

Complex Carbohydrates

Fruits and vegetables are the ideal carbohydrates for your healthy diet. Processed foods such as white bread and pasta are simple carbohydrates that convert to sugar in the body quickly. Keep food choices as close to their natural state as possible. Fresh fruits and vegetables contain vitamins and minerals that processed foods do not have.

Sweets made with white sugar should be avoided as well. Sugar provides no nutritional value, increases caloric intake, and raises blood glucose levels.

Calories

Reduce the amount of calories that you consume in a day to lose weight. There is no diet that will specifically target the fat around your belly, but a low calorie healthy diet will eventually lead to a reduction in waist size.

Calorie counting also helps you to be conscious of the foods that you are eating. To lose weight with calorie reduction, determine the amount of calories that your body requires to remain at your current weight and reduce it by about five hundred calories. Consuming five hundred calories less per day for seven days will result in a thirty five hundred calorie reduction that is the amount needed to lose one pound. Exercise will increase the amount of calories burned in a week as well. One to two pounds per week is a safe and healthy amount of weight to lose.
With proper meal planning and attention to the foods that you are consuming, belly fat will disappear in no time.
