Losing weight is often a difficult task. It comes down to calories expended and calories consumed. People who suffer with medical issues such as low thyroid or endocrine disorders have other variables. You can improve weight loss with methods that are relatively easy. According to Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, a professor of nutrition at Penn State University, the key to weight loss is being consistent and taking small steps.

    Wear a pedometer daily to track the number of steps you take. Pedometers are relatively inexpensive. Set a goal of 10,000 steps per day. People that use pedometers generally increase physical activity throughout the day.

    Eat clean, unprocessed foods. Eating clean, whole foods means to avoid foods that come in a box. Shop for food around the perimeter of the grocery store. Clean foods include eggs, chicken, fruits and vegetables.

    Train with weights. Weights build muscle, which boosts your metabolism and also burns calories while you rest. Train with weight machines at the gym or use dumbbells at home.

    Drink two to three cups of tea per day. Green and black tea are the best options. For those that are sensitive to caffeine, stick to decaffeinated teas. Green and black teas help fight cancer; in addition, drinking two cups of tea daily can help reduce calories when you substitute it for calorie-laden drinks.
