How to Lose Weight and Tone Muscles Fast

Being in good physical condition helps in all aspects of life. Getting physical activity each day helps clear your head and dissipate stress. It helps you sleep better at night. Physical fitness is an aid in any number of life situations, like climbing stairs or moving furniture. For these and many other reasons, being in good physical condition is a worthy goal to have. There are several things you can do to lose weight and tone muscles fast.

    Get to know yourself. Use a body mass index (BMI) chart to determine a healthy weight range for your height. Once you have a goal weight in mind, divide the number of pounds you want to lose by the number of days in which you want to lose it. Be reasonable with your weight loss time frame.

    Cut the number of calories you consume. The fewer calories you consume, the faster you will lose weight. However, don't consume less than 1,500 calories a day without consulting a doctor. Also, if you want to build muscle mass as you lose weight (which are two different processes), you need to make sure you eat enough to maintain muscle mass.

    Keep a journal in which you record exactly what you eat, how much of it, and when. This will help track your eating habits and identify problem areas. Cut out unhealthy foods, especially fried foods, sweets and pastries.

    Make a regular workout schedule and follow it consistently. If you want to focus on toning muscle (as opposed to building muscle mass), do weight training exercises with lighter weights, fewer sets and a higher number of repetitions. Get plenty of aerobic exercise, since this will help cut fat and reveal muscle tone.
