How to Lose Weight Fast for Wrestling

Oftentimes, high school and collegiate wrestlers lose weight rapidly before matches since they feel it gives them the slightest competitive edge. There are ways to achieve this weight loss, but adopting these methods is not recommended without medical supervision and a knowledgeable coaching staff to guide you.

    Know how much weight you need to cut so you know when to stop. In most cases, you should be overweight by only a few pounds.

    Ride the stationary bike with a sweatshirt and sweatpants on. The point is to get you sweating.

    Sit inside a sauna with a teammate or coach who can monitor your status. You will begin to sweat with no physical activity.

    Stop drinking water or sports drinks while cutting weight and don't swallow your saliva. Spit it into a plastic bottle. You will lose weight through dehydration.

    Begin hydrating as soon as you've made weight with drinks like Pedialyte.
