With the right balance of diet, exercise and knowledge, you can lose weight fast without ever picking up a bottle of weight-loss pills.

    Reduce caloric intake. For fast weight loss, you need to burn more calories than you eat. According to WebMD, a person can lose 3 to 5 pounds in just one week by cutting down to 1,050-1,200 calories a day and working out for at least one hour. To cut down on calories, multiply your body weight by seven. The resulting number is your daily calorie intake target. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, you would have an intake total of 1,400 calories.

    Minimize certain types of food in your diet. Cut down on or cut out items such as starches, added sugar, dairy foods and animal fats.

    Change your daily eating habits. Eating vegetables throughout the day or drinking plenty of water can help you feel full throughout the day. Remove any tempting foods from the house. When you eat, eat only from a plate and sit down at a table. Boredom is a cause of snacking, so keep busy during the day to prevent overeating.

    Start exercising. In order to lose weight rapidly, you must exercise a minimum of an hour per day. Cardiovascular workouts will burn the most fat, but to keep your body healthy, you need to follow up with strength training a few days a week. As your workouts go on, you will need to keep increasing intensity in order to avoid injury and still burn calories.

    Start a food and weight journal. By tracking what you eat and weighing yourself daily, you can keep focused on your weight loss and stick to your goals.
