Gluten-Free Restaurant Menu Ideas

Gluten-Free Restaurant Menu Ideas

Those with gluten allergies have celiac disease, meaning their bodies cannot properly digest gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, triticale and oats. It is a disease that damages the small intestine and disrupts the body's ability to absorb nutrients from food, according to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse. Planning a gluten-free menu for your restaurant or event is less scary than it initially sounds. Plenty of breakfast, lunch and dinner menu options are available that can be made with gluten-free bread or pasta. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Breakfast

A gluten-free breakfast menu can include a variety of gluten-free cereals such as Nature's Path Mesa Sunrise, Doves Farm Chocolate Stars, Nature's Path Crispy Rice and Whole Earth Organic Maple Frosted Flakes. Try offering a variety of eggs such as fried, poached, scrambled, boiled and omelets. Pancakes and waffles made with gluten-free flour are also options. Fruit plates and gluten-free sausage work as sides. French toast made with gluten-free bread and gluten-free muffins are also options.

Lunch

For lunch menus try making pizza made with gluten-free dough that you can purchase or make yourself. Gluten-free pizza ideas include sausage pizza (Italian sausage, caramelized onions, tomato sauce and Italian cheese) and chicken piccante (spicy grilled chicken, smoked bacon, goat cheese, Italian cheese and leeks). Wraps are another gluten-free sandwich option such as pesto bacon, lettuce and tomato on a brown rice tortilla. Soups and salads are additional lunchtime options that are gluten-free and easy to prepare. Minestrone, baked potato and bacon, curried lamb and lentil, chili and seafood stews are ideas for gluten-free soup while gluten-free salad ideas include fruit salad, carrot, avocado and sprout salad, and black bean, corn and jicama salad. Gluten free lunchtime pasta options can include pasta and clams (little neck clams, garlic-herb butter, aspargus, white wine sauce) and pasta Alfredo (gluten-free pasta, grilled chicken, Italian cured lamb, roasted red peppers, sauteed red onion and peas tossed in Alfredo sauce with Asiago cheese).

Dinner

Gluten-free dinner menu ideas include appetizers like sun-dried tomato dip, pico de gallo and guacamole. Chicken entrees can include dishes like sesame chicken, thai chicken wraps, chicken and rice, chicken French (chicken in a white wine and lemon sauce over a bed of gluten-free pasta) and chicken piemontese (grilled chicken breast stuffed with smoked provolone and Gouda cheeses and Italian ham). Wild rice salmon cakes are another option. Other gluten-free dinner menu options can include grilled pork chops (marinated grill pork chops served with seasonal vegetables), vegetable pesto gluten-free penne pasta, red quinoa stuffed peppers, filet mignon and sweet potato casserole. Gluten-free seafood dinner menu options can include grilled seafood brochette (assortment of broiled, skewered seafood served over basmati rice with lemon butter) and grilled swordfish limone (grilled swordfish steak grilled with lemon shallot butter).
