Fastest Way to Lose Weight Without Pills

When you need to lose weight fast, and you want to do it without pills, a low-carb diet is a great solution. A low-carb diet, such as the Atkins Diet or Stillman's, starts working really fast, by shedding water weight. In addition, low-carb diets help you to lose body fat quickly. With a low-carb diet, people generally lose 10 lbs or more in the first week, and 2 or more pounds a week thereafter.

Losing Water Weight

    The fastest fuel for your body's activities is provided when you eat foods that are high in carbohydrates. Sugar and starchy foods, like bread, corn and potato chips, offer instant energy for the body's cells. When you don't eat carbohydrates, your body has to look elsewhere for fuel. The first place it looks is the liver for its stores of glycogen. When your body needs energy, and there are no carbs being consumed, the liver converts glycogen, which is stored carbohydrate, into glucose and provides it to your cells as needed. The significance of this process lies in the water that is stored with glycogen. Every gram of stored carbohydrate is surrounded by three grams of water. When glycogen is broken down into glucose, the water is released, resulting in the initial speedy weight loss associated with a low-carb diet.

Losing Body Fat

    After the initial water loss, weight loss on a low-carb diet continues with a loss of body fat. A process called ketosis occurs; your liver converts stored body fat into ketones, to be used as energy. This process will only continue as long as you continue on a low-carb diet.

There are many different varieties of low-carb diets, and your doctor can help you choose the plan that is best suited to your metabolism. As with any diet, results will vary, and lost weight may be regained if you return to your normal eating habits.
