How to Make Your Own Low-Carb Protein Drink

A low-carb protein shake is the best nutritional choice before your workout, post-workout and for overall weight loss. Many people may think that protein shakes are tasteless and hard to make at home. However, you can create your own low-carb protein shake tailored to your taste. There are many protein shake recipes with different ingredient combinations, but this recipe, which uses ingredients you likely have at home, makes a shake that's high in protein and contains very few carbs. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    1

Blend 2 scoops of whey protein powder and 10 ounces of water for 15 seconds in a blender until smooth. Whey protein is the liquid by-product in cheese production and low in carbohydrates. It also contains the branched-chain amino acids that are used to fuel the muscles. You can use plain or vanilla-flavored whey protein powder.

    2

Add 1 tbsp. of flax meal to the whey mixture and blend for another 15 seconds to mix all of the ingredients together. Flax meal is high in fiber, antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids and low in carbohydrates, making it a perfect choice for low-carb shakes.

    3

Mix 1 tbsp. of peanut butter (use an all-natural peanut butter if possible; regular peanut butter has sugar, making it high in carbohydrates) and 1 tbsp. of sugar-free jam and blend for a few more seconds until the mixture is smooth and creamy. The sugar-free strawberry jam adds a sweet kick to the drink.

    4

Add some ice cubes and blend all the ingredients on "High" for about 20 seconds in the blender.

    5

Transfer the drink to a glass and sprinkle some cinnamon on top for a tasty, healthy low-carb protein drink.
