Following a low-carbohydrate and low-calorie diet can help you if you are overweight or obese. Protiens

    Proteins are naturally low in carbohydrates and can help the body build lean muscle mass and strong connective tissues. It is important to select proteins that are lower in fat in order to help you lose as much weight as possible. Chicken breast, pork tenderloin and wild game are all excellent lean protein choices for weight loss. Try to stay away from eating fatty cuts of meat such as marbled steaks or ham, as they typically contain high levels of fat and calories.

Produce

    Fresh produce are low in simple carbohydrates and high in both vitamins and water content. Fresh fruits and vegetables are complex carbohydrates, which can help the body speed up metabolism, thus aiding in weight loss. Select a variety of fruits and vegetables so that you will receive many different vitamins and minerals, as each one contains a different combination of nutrients. Avoid vegetables such as potatoes because they will turn into simple carbohydrates in the body.

Whole Grains

    Whole grains that are unprocessed will be used as a complex carbohydrate in the body and will help speed up your metabolism. Avoid processed grains such as any foods that contain white flour or instant rice because these foods are simple carbohydrates and will cause weight gain. Grains that are whole include stone-ground oats, basmati rice, millet and spelt.
