How to change your diet to reduce Fibromyalgia flare-ups

Fibromyalgia is an illness characterized by chronic pain, sleep disorders and fatigue that affects 15 million Americans. There is no cure, but many patients find relief through prescription drugs and lifestyle changes. Here are some ideas about what to eat if you have Fibromyalgia and want to reduce the number of flare-ups.

    Change to a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Choose lean protein, such as eggs, tofu, lean meats, poultry and fish. Make sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and limit servings of bread, rice and pasta.

    Change your diet to incorporate healthy fats. These include sesame oil, olive oil, canola oil, nuts and avocados. You could stir fry vegetables and lean meat with one of these healthy oils. Add some ginger or turmeric to your stir-fry, too. These are anti-inflammatory foods.

    Reduce the alcohol, caffeine and sugar in your diet. Also avoid artificial sweeteners and if you must use them, change to natural ones like Stevia.

    250 mg magnesium
    Boswellia and Malic Acid
    500-700 mg calcium
    B complex vitamins
