How to Lose Weight Without Pills or Special Diets

Losing weight is never easy. In fact, it can be one of the most difficult things a person will undertake. People want to people there is a magic pill that will make the extra weight dissolve or a diet that will work overnight, but unfortunately, that is just not the case. In fact, fad diets with extremely low calories can be dangerous. Diets with less than 800 calories per day could result in heart rhythm abnormalities, which can be fatal. So be realistic. You will have to work hard to lose those extra pounds and make certain changes in your life, but the effort will pay off as you begin losing the weight.

    Write down your weight loss goals. Perhaps you want to lose twenty pounds. Make the list realistic. You can't lose ten pounds a week. Jennifer A. Linde, PhD, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, states, "A realistic goal is losing one to two pounds a week to stay healthy." The goals will keep you focused and on the right track.

    Eat less. The body needs to take in less calories to actually lose pounds. So watch portions and serving sizes, and cut out snacks whenever you can.

    Work out. Exercising burns calories. So try a new workout. You can even incorporate exercise into simple things you normally do. For instance, if you normally take the elevator, use the stairs if only going a few flights. Perhaps you can take more walks. Just think of ways to add exercise into your daily life.

    Keep a food diary. Write down the foods you consume every day. This helps you keep on track and focused and may stop you from having an extra snack.

    Join a weight-loss support group. This is a great way for you to connect with others in the same situation. You may learn practical ideas and methods that have worked for others. This also gives you an outlet to express frustrations.
