Diet for Weight Loss in a Week

First, know that you will not meet your weight loss goals in only a week unless you only have 2 or 3 pounds to lose. However, if you only have a week to lose weight and you are interested in dropping as much as possible, there is only one way to go--a carb-restricted plan like the Atkins Diet will enable you to lose a few pounds of fat and water weight, resulting in a heavy drop in scale weight in just a week's time.

    The Atkins plan is a low-carb diet, which means that in addition to losing fat you will be shedding water weight. This occurs because when you consume carbs, your body retains water as well as the energy from glycogen. Following the Atkins approach for a week will force your body to shed that unnecessary water weight, resulting in maximal weight loss in minimal time.

    While on the Atkins approach, you should limit your daily carb consumption to 20 to 30 grams per day, while striving to eat five or six small protein and fat meals evenly spaced throughout the day. You should look to consume only 3 to 6 grams of carbs per meal, preferably from green vegetables like peppers, cucumbers, spinach, lettuce, and broccoli--high fiber items that contain minimal amounts of carbs. The remainder of the diet should contain protein and fat in roughly equal proportion--aim to consume plenty of meats, eggs, nuts, seeds, and some cheeses. Aim for a daily calorie total of between 1,500 to 2,000 calories per day, and by the end of the seventh day you should notice a significantly leaner, less bloated you staring back from the mirror.
