How to Lose Weight on Soup Diets

People who want to lose weight may find it difficult to make time to prepare healthy meals every day. However, going on a soup diet, such as the Cabbage Soup Diet, can solve this problem. Soup is easy and inexpensive to make, and you can cook a large quantity in advance. In reality, any low-fat, low-calorie soup will work, but cabbage is high in nutrients as well.

    Chop the listed vegetables into small pieces suitable for soup. You may add some other vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower or tomatoes, but don't add anything starchy like potatoes.

    Put all the vegetables in the soup pot. Cover with 12 cups of water.

    Boil the soup for 10 minutes, then let simmer until all vegetables are soft. Add herbs, salt and pepper to taste. Top with fresh chopped cilantro.

    Store your soup. You can divide it into containers for each day or just put it into one large container and then store the whole thing in your refrigerator.

    The diet lasts seven days. Day 1. You may eat as much of the soup as you like on every day of the diet. You may also drink as much water and non-caloric drinks as you want. On the first day, you may also add any fruit except bananas.

    Day 2. Eat all the soup you want, as well as all vegetables, either raw or cooked. Keep the cooking low-fat. You may also eat a baked potato with a small amount of butter.

    Day 3. Eat more fruits and veggies. Besides your soup, you may add fruits and vegetables, but no potatoes and no bananas.

    Day 4. Add bananas and skim milk. You may eat a lot of bananas and milk today--up to eight bananas and eight glasses of milk.

    Days 5 and 6. Cook beef, chicken without the skin or fish, besides your soup. Don't exceed more than 20 ounces of meat total for the day. Day 6 is the same, except you may add back all the vegetables you want in addition to the meat and the soup.

    Finish your diet with Day 7. You may add vegetables, fruit juice and brown rice into your meals in addition to the soup.
