How to stick to your diet at Applebee's

Eating out when you're on a diet can be difficult, and it becomes even more difficult when you're dealing with a restaurant such as Applebee's. Applebee's refuses to give out their nutritional information on their website, in fact, they will only give it out if forced to by law. So, if you're trying to stick to your diet and have to eat at Applebee's, then use this handy guide to stay on track.

Instructions

    1

Send an email to Applebee's letting them know that you don't appreciate their secrecy concerning the calorie contents of their dishes. There's no reason for a restaurant to be hiding information that impacts people's health unless they have something to be ashamed of when it comes to those numbers.

    2

As far as beverages goes, the only thing you can trust at Applebee's is diet soda, coffee, and hot tea. Their iced teas are all flavored and with no way to know how much sugar is in them, they can't fit into a healthy diet.

    3

All of Applebee's appetizers are either deep fried or loaded with cheese. If you must have an appetizer, go with the cheeseburger sliders. They're not exactly healthy, but at least you're getting some protein and they aren't deep fried.

    4

The salads actually look pretty good, as long as you don't get one with fried chicken on it. I would recommend that you bring your own dressing, however, or at least ask for their dressing on the side so you can control how much you use. It appears that they make their own dressing, and since they won't tell us what's in it, it should be avoided.

    5

When it comes to the entree, steak is almost always a safe bet. It's real food, a great source of protein, and you just don't need to add much to it to make it flavorful. Avoid any steaks that are "smothered" with anything though, especially the ones with pictures of gooey cheese all over the steak. Other than that, avoid anything deep fried, even if it does have a little weight watchers symbol next to it. Unless you're on weight watchers, those symbols are meaningless.

    6

As for sides, again, avoid anything smothered. Items like steamed veggies, or grilled shrimp should be fine.

    7

If you're eating with the little ones be aware that french fries can be replaced with steamed broccoli, applesauce, or celery sticks with ranch dressing.

    8

Pass on the dessert this time. Usually, I can at least suggest one of the better desserts, but Applebee's believes that you don't have a right to know what you're putting into your body, so unfortunately, there's just no way to make an educated decision in this case.
