How Does a Jump Start Diet Work?

How Does a Jump Start Diet Work?

What is a Jump-Start Diet?

A jump-start diet isn't one particular diet plan: It's more like a pre-diet that is attached to a diet plan to speed the process and prepare the body for weight loss. The term "jump-start diet" usually refers to any special practice or preparation to lose weight that is done in the week before the diet actually begins.

Example of a Jump-Start Diet

Every jump-start diet progresses differently. The Flat Belly Diet, for example, is preceded by a 4-day jump start. Participants eat 400 calories less than they will on the actual diet; they eat special foods to reduce bloating; and they stay away from gas-inducing foods. After the 4 days are up, the dieters are less restricted. This is typical of jump-start diets.

Common Aspects

Most jump-start diets require you to consume very few calories, eat fruits and vegetables and drink a lot of water for around a week's time.

Why Jump Start Diets Are Used

Any drastic cut in calories will lead to quick and dramatic weight loss. The theory behind a jump-start diet is that it sets you off at a quick pace, giving you the confidence to keep going with the diet.

The problem is that cutting calories so drastically confuses your metabolism. Instead of continuing to lose weight, your body decides you are starving and tries to save every pound. This is why many diets don't work.
