Authentic Gluten-Free Food

Living with or cooking for someone with a food allergy is a challenging, especially for people with gluten intolerance, or celiac disease. There are many foods and meals that are all natural, authentic and gluten free. Please note that many of these foods can become "contaminated" if they are cooked with foods that contain gluten.

Fruits and Vegetables

All fruits and vegetables are a staple in a gluten-free diet. Cooked fruits can run the risk of gluten if certain kinds of flour were used as a thickener. Avoid fried vegetables which can be fried in flours that are not gluten free.

Meats

Meats, including beef. poultry and fish, are naturally and authentically gluten free protein. This does not include processed meats (i.e. cold cuts, hot dogs). Do not eat breaded or fried meats if they were cooked with a gluten flour or if the oil was also used to fry food products containing gluten.

Dairy

Virtually all diary is gluten free. This includes cheese (except blue), eggs, yogurt (plain), and milk. Always check your butter to make sure no gluten additives are in the ingredients.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are nutritional gluten-free natural snack. They make alternative oils also. Enjoy handfuls of hemp seed, sesame seed, sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, pine and walnuts.

Grains...yes grains

Many people assume that, with a gluten-free diet, all grains and flours are off the menu. This is not accurate. There are many gluten-free grains that are acceptable for a "GF" lifestyle. They include cornmeal, buckwheat, flax seed, millet , rice, salba and soy. Most of these grains can be ground into flour alternatives.
