How to Maintain a Low Carb Diet

Cutting carbs out of your diet can be a challenge at first, but if you stay committed and stick to a few simple concepts you may find it gets easier over time. Low-carb diets can help you to lose weight and stay healthy, but come at the cost of forcing you to pay much more attention to the foods you eat. While embarking on a low-carb diet is not for the weak-willed, the long-term benefits are often worth the short-term side effects.

Instructions

    1

Cut your portion sizes. This is one of the most effective methods for lowering both carbs and calories. Order smaller sizes and split large meals into two.

    2

Stock up on low-carb snacks. Yogurt, vegetables, and fruits can help you get through carb cravings without doing too much damage to your carb count.

    3

Drink lots of water. Water will make you feel less hungry and will keep you hydrated. Next time you get your carb cravings late at night, try drinking a glass of water instead.

    4

Drink fewer alcoholic beverages. Beer, especially, is very high in carbs and can derail your diet.

    5

Talk to a nutritionist. An expert in nutrition can help you cut a healthy amount of carbs and create a custom diet for your needs.
