There are many methods to lose weight in a fast manner, including eliminating entire food groups, severely cutting your calories or going on a fad diet. However, losing weight in a healthier manner will give you a greater chance of long-term success. A comprehensive diet and regular exercise plan can allow you to drop pounds and slim down at a consistent rate while also providing your body with the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that it needs on a daily basis.

    Eat the right carbohydrates. People can get confused over whether they should eat carbohydrates or not when wanting to lose weight; your body does need carbohydrates for energy, but not all carbohydrates are created equal. Stick with whole-grains, whole-wheat breads, fruits and vegetables and eliminate foods that contain white flour or added sugars.

    Consume healthy fats. Similar to carbohydrates, there are good fats and bad fats. Those that contain saturated or trans fats, such as are in many cakes, cookies and fried foods, can cause you to gain weight. Instead, eat healthy poly and monounsaturated fats, which will help you to lose weight by boosting your metabolism and digestive system. Examples are avocados, olive oil and nuts.

    Eat lean protein at every meal. Many of your body's functions require protein to work properly, including repairing and building muscle. You do not store excess protein so it needs to be replenished on a regular basis. Eating protein at every meal can help your body to function smoothly and drop excess weight.

    Take in the right amount of calories. Too many and your weight loss will take longer; too few and you'll slow down your metabolism. The University of Maryland recommends a minimum of 1200 calories per day for women and 1400 a day for men.

    Take a spinning class or engage in some sort of cardiovascular activity three to five times per week. A 60-minute spinning class can burn over 800 calories, according to Fitness Magazine. Plus, you will strengthen your core, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and calves at the same time.

    Practice yYoga two to four times per week. When you take a Yoga class you build muscle evenly throughout your entire body; the tricky poses use your body weight as resistance to increase your strength and endurance. The more muscle you have, the more effective your metabolism will run.
