The Get Pregnant Diet

When a woman decides to become pregnant, there are several diet and exercise changes she can make to increase her fertility. These changes can improve fertility chances no matter whether infertility is an issue. The diet and exercise changes are easy to implement into your lifestyle before and after you are pregnant.

Quick Facts

Exercising more than seven hours a week can decrease the hormones necessary for ovulation and conception. Cutting back on the intensity and the number of hours will increase your chances.

Your body mass index (BMI) might have an impact on your ability to become pregnant. Your BMI, whether too high or too low, can cause hormonal imbalances.

Just one drink of alcohol a day can decease the chances of becoming pregnant.

Decreasing the consumption of caffeine will increase your ability to conceive.

Avoid smoking cigarettes and recreational drugs.

What to Consume

Folic acid is essential for the development of the fetus during the first 2 to 8 weeks. Many women do not yet know that they are pregnant during this crucial time. Folic acid can be found in bananas, milk, leafy green vegetables like spinach, turnip greens, lettuces, asparagus, beans both fresh and dried, peas, oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, sunflower seeds, liver and fortified cereals.

Fish is healthy for pregnant women, but stay away from fish high in mercury such as shark, mackerel, tilefish and swordfish.

Increasing your iron intake is important, and it can be found in fruits, vegetables, beans and red meat. Reducing the amount of processed foods will help control the insulin levels in a woman trying to become pregnant. Processed foods should be replaced with whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and meats low in fat. Eating processed meats in small amounts and avoiding any meats that are raw or smoked reduces the risk for food-borne illnesses.

Consuming nuts, avocados, olive oil and whole-milk products have been shown to be more beneficial to women trying to conceive than low-fat and sugar-free versions.

A healthy lifestyle should be the focus for every woman at all times of their lives, but it's never more important than when conceiving and carrying a baby. Eating healthful food in moderation, maintaining a healthy weight and exercising moderately will assist your body in delivering a healthy newborn.
